英文 - CHINESE MEDICATED DIET
Radish
  VARIANT NAMES Laifu, Qigen, Luofu, Luobai, Tu, Zisong, Qinsong.
  ORIGIN The fresh root of Raphanus sativus [Cruciferae].
  CHEMICAL COMPOSITION Containing glucose, sucrose, fructose, various kinds of
amino acid, coumaric acid, caffeic acid, ferulic acid, phenylpyruvic acid, gentisinic acid,
hydrox-henzoic acid, vitamin C, methylmercaptan, raphanusin and so on.
  NATURE,FLAVOR AND CHANNEL TROPISM Pungent, sweet in flavor and cool in
nature, acting on the channels of the lung and stomach.
  EFFICIENCIES AND INDICATIONS Removing food stagnation, clearing away
phlegm-heat, keeping the adverse qi flowing downward, regulating the middle-jiao, clearing
away toxic materials. It is used to treat food stagnation, turgor, aphonia caused by cough due to
accumulation of phlegm, hematemesis, nose-bleeding, diabetes, dysentery, megrim and
headache.
  DIRECTIONS To be eaten raw, stir-fried, cooked, or made into medicated diet. It can also
be decocted or pounded to get its juice for drinking, or applied to the affected part when used
externally. Patients manifesting symptoms of insufficiency of the spleen-yang should not eat it.
  Carrot
  VARIANT NAMES Hongluobo, Hulufu, Huangluobo, Jinsun, Dingxiang luobo,
Honglufu.
  ORIGIN The root of Daucus carota [Umbelliferae].
  CHEMICIAL COMPOSITION Containing more than two kinds of carotene, such asα-,
β-,γ-and,ε-isomer, lycopene, hexahydrolycopene, etc., vitamin B1 and B2, and anthocyanidin.
It also contains sugar (3 to 15%), fatty oil (0.1 to .07%), essential oil (0.014%), umbelliferone
and caffeic aicd, chlorogenic acid, gallic acid, p-hydroyx-henzoic acid, etc.
  NATURE, FLAVOR AD CHANNEL TROPISM Sweet in flavor and neutral in nature,
acting on the channels of the lung and spleen.
  EFFICIENCIES AND INDICATIONS Strengthening the spleen and removing stagnation
of food. It is used for treatment of maldigestion, protracted dysentery and cough.
  DIRECTIONS To be eaten either raw or cooked. It will strengthen and tonify the five
viscera, promote digestion, nourish the kidney-yin, and invigorate the kidney-yang to eat carrot
for a long period of time.
  Lotus Root
  VARIANT NAMES Lianou, Liangen.
  ORIGIN The fat rhizome of Nelumbo nucifera [Nymphaeaceae].
  CHEMICAL COMPOSITION Containing starch, protein, asparagines, vitamin C,
pyrocatechol, d-gallic-catechin, neochlorogenic acid, leucocyanidin, leucodephinidin and
peroxidase.
  NATURE, FLAVOR AND CHANNNEL TROPSIM Sweet in flavor and cold in nature,
acting on the channels of the heart, spleen and stomach.
  EFFICIENCIES AND INDICATIONS Raw lotus root can clear away heat, cool the blood, dissipate blood stasis, so it is used to treat restlessness and thirst during the course of febrile
diseases, hematemesis, nose-bleeding and strangury of heat type; while cooked lotus root can
strengthen the spleen, promote the functional activity of stomach, replenish the blood, promote
the tissue regeneration and arrest diarrhea.
  DIRECTIONS To be eaten raw, cooked, or pounded to get its juice for drinking. It can be
dried in the sun and ground into power for making gruel.
  SUPPLEMNENT Lotus Root Joint: Its decoction, when taken orally, can check upward
adverse flow of qi and regulate the middle-jiao; while its parched charcoal, being able to arrest
bleeding and dissipate blood stasis, is used to treat bleeding diseases of various kinds.
  The Shoot of Mao Bamboo
  VARIANT NAMES Sun, Maozhusun (Cogongrass Bamboo Shoot), Maozhusun
(Cat-Bamboo Shoot).
  ORIGIN The shoot of Phyllostachys pubescens [Poaceae].
  CHEMICAL COMPOSITION Every 100g of the edible part contains 2.6g of protein, 0.2g
of fat, 7.0g of carbohydrate, 76mg of phosphorus, 10mg of calcium, 0.5mg of iron and polyose.
  NATURE, FLAVOR AND CHANNEL TROPISM Sweet in flavor and cold in nature,
acting on the channels of the large intestine, lung and stomach.
  EFFICIENCIES AND INDICATIONS Clearing away heat, resolving phlegm, regulating
the function of the stomach and spleen, moisturizing the intestinal tract. It is used to treat
excessive accumulation of phlegm and heat in the lung, abdominal distention due to retention of
food in the stomach, dyschesia, measles reluctant to erupt.
  DIRECTIONS To be decocted, eaten cooked or sauted. Children with symptoms of
deficiency of the spleen should not eat it excessively.
  Mushroom
  VARIANT NAMES Koumo, Baimo, Rouxun (Flesh Gill Fungus), Jizumogu
(Chicken-paw Mushroom).
  ORIGIN The whole substance of Agaricus campestrs [Agarocaceae].
  CHEMICAL COMPOSITION Every 100g of dried mushroom contains 35.6g of protein,
1. 4g of fat (mainly fattyacid, linoleic acid), 14g of carbohydrate, 100mg of calcium, 162mg of
phosphorus, 32mg of iron, 0.02mg of vitamin B1 , 2.53 mg of vitamun B2,, 55.1mg of nicotinic
acid, 1mg of vitamin C, and kinds of free amino acid, vitamin A, B6 , D, E, and K, pantothenic
acid, biotin and folic acid.
  NATURE, FLAVOR AND CHANNEL TROPISM Sweet in flavor and cool in nature,
acting on the channels of the intestines, stomach and lung.
  EFFICIENCIES AND INDICATIONS Promoting the functional activity of stomach,
regulating the flow of qi, resolving phlegm, pleasing the mind, clearing away toxic materials,
inducing eruption of measles, arresting vomiting and diarrhea. It is used to treat febrile diseases
at the middle or late stage, bodily tiredness ad deficiency of qi, dry mouth and anorexia, cough
with phlegm, fullness sensation and oppressed feeling in the chest, vomiting, diarrhea, slow
eruption of measles in children. Mushroom can also be used as an auxiliary treatment of
infectious hepatitis and leucopoenia.
